“In true love, you attain freedom.”
–Thich Nhat Hanh
Some years ago, I stumbled upon an image I loved so much I set it as my Facebook cover page:
This image represents how I feel when I’m making art–I feel joyful and playful. My spirit feels light, and my heart soars. But most of all, I feel free.
The image of a heart with wings is something I wanted to use on one of my canvases.
I began by painting a blue and violet background and created wings using texture paste. It’s a material in a tube that squeezes out like toothpaste. Using my fingers to spread the paste, I then used a palette knife to create lines of texture. Paint was added to accentuate the wings’ dimensions. The heart was formed with polymer clay and then painted. I like how the heart is a bit lop-sided. It’s not perfect, and I think it adds a slight quirky feel to the piece. Needing a bit of magic, I mixed a bit of micro-fine glitter in with some gloss sealer and added that bit of sparkle over the winged heart. Lastly, I added the quote. It’s such a true statement–whether one is doing something they love or giving/receiving love to and from others.
Love gives us strength and courage to live our best lives–what’s more freeing than that?
Thanks for stopping by!
